The term spin-off refers to the procedure used for the creation of a new business engaging human resources who no longer belong to a specific organization.

The expression research spin-off is used when professors, university researchers and research operators of public institutions for research start a business, enhancing and commercially availing themselves of the professional experiences and the developed know-how.

The research spin-offs represent an effective instrument in transfering technologies and skills onto the market and generating companies that are able to compete within fields of high added value.
